While on our rest day in Dingboche we climbed to the equivalent height of Mt Blanc and stopped by the climber memorial and clinic in Pheriche (funded by climber donations and currently being staffed by a girl Dr from Christchurch, among others). Every climber that has perished on Everest has their name listed on this memorial. Around 250 to date! We also passed by a private memorial area on our way to Lobuche where individual memorials had been erected to honour a number of well known climbers.
A bit of a reality check on the risks of climbing big mountains and a strong and timely reminder on the need to follow the rules and avoid human error!
