We were woken at 3am with tea by the Sherpas and then donned all of our kit- harness, crampons, big boots, jumars, carabiners, headlamp – for our push to the top. Today, should represent just less than half of what we will need to do on our Everest summit attempt. We all successfully made the summit in 5.5 hours which our guide was happy with. As a reward, we get to do it all again tomorrow, without Sherpas! Amazingly enough,we completed the second ascent in 3.5 hours!
The return was much quicker as we rappelled down the steep sections. As always, we were humbled when over taken (like we were standing still) by a Swiss guy who was training for a speed ascent of Everest. Apparently, he has climbed the North Face of the Eiger in 2.5 hours!
We are now heading back to Everest Base Camp where we will get a couple of days rest before attacking the ice fall! Hopefully, we will also squeeze in a solar shower. The icebreaker kit needs a break….
